Dr. Hossein Emami

Dr. Hossein Emami, 89, Altoona, passed away Tuesday evening at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Esfahan, Iran, son of the late Seyed Hashem and Sedigheh (Anvari) Emami. On June 12, 1960, he married Louise Sonia Calistri in Philadelphia.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Jessica R. Emami and wife, Rachel Hopp; a son, Nader C. Emami and wife, Maria B.; and two grandchildren: Bijan Emami and Arianna Emami.
Dr. Emami was a colonel in the Iranian Army Medical Corps. He served his residency at the Naval Hospital, Philadelphia. From 1989 until his retirement in 2007, he worked as a physician in anesthesia pain management at Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
He attended St. Marys Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, and was a member of Blair Tennis Athletic Club and the Summit Athletic Club. He enjoyed tennis, photography, swimming, skiing, chess and reading medical journals. He was a high-ranking online chess player.
Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, where a funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Father Anthony J. Legarski officiating. Entombment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
