Obituary for Anna M. Rhodes

Anna M. ‘Sis’ (Craig) Rhodes

Dec. 31, 1929 – Oct. 20, 2021

Anna M. “Sis” (Craig) Rhodes, 91, formerly of Bellemeade, passed away Wednesday at the Presbyterian Village at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Altoona, the second of 11 children of the late William F. and Edna A. (Farabaugh) Craig.

She attended St. Mark’s School and Altoona Catholic High School.

Anna was a kind, loving and generous person to everyone she met. Family was the most important thing to her. Early in her life, her father died and she worked to help her mother keep her family together. Later with a family of her own, she instilled that love of family in her children. Anna was an amazing cook and the perfect hostess. She always looked forward to cooking for her family and friends, especially her famous cinnamon rolls, apple dumplings and any kind of pie. Having company to cook for was always the greatest joy for her.

She loved being busy! Anna was a regular volunteer at different local organizations including the Altoona Food Bank, Home Nursing Agency, and at her church, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Her hobbies included cleaning everything and washing windows – not only in her house but anyone’s house. She was an avid yard worker – not a weed or dry leaf could be found in her yard. This too, brought her joy.

Surviving are three children: Carol Galioto of Altoona, Fred McCorkle (Heidi) of Altoona and Cindy Beach (Joel) of Sarasota, Fla.; stepson, Tom Rhodes (Becky) of Duncansville; four siblings: Joan Wills, Dick Craig (Peggy), Don Craig and Vince Craig (Joanne); four grandchildren: Melissa Galioto, Mary Anne Dibbins (Ford), Jessica McCorkle and Casey McVay; and great-grandson, Carson McCorkle. She is also survived by special family member, Joe Galioto; and numerous nieces, nephews, step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William F. McCorkle; and her second husband, Ellis Rhodes; siblings: Bill Craig, Jack Craig, Bob Craig, Charlie Craig, Janet Gensamer and Judy Baird; sisters-in-law, Ann Craig, Sally Craig and Vickie Craig; brother-in-law, Joe Wills; and a stepdaughter, Carol Ann Mackanos.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. A Vigil Service will be held Sunday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. Burial will immediately follow at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

The family requests wearing a mask for the safety of others if you haven’t been vaccinated. Thank you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anna’s memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 806 11th Street, Altoona; or Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Dr., Altoona, PA 16601.
