Obituary for Arthur T. "Terrell" Hicks Sr.

Sept. 25, 1969 – March 8, 2023

Arthur “Terrell” Hicks Sr., 53, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday at UPMC Magee Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA. He was born in Welch, WV; a son of Gloria Hicks of NY and Donald Thomas of WV.

On Sept. 28, 2015, he married Melissa (Lyon) Hicks of Altoona.

Arthur was a very proud Marine. “ Once a Marine, always a Marine”. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1987-1995, earning the following awards: Rifle Marksmanship Badge, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal- 3D Award, Kuwalt Liberation Medal. After the military, he became an EMT in New York City. He was one of the brave first responders during the 9/11 attack. Terrell also worked as a Corrections Officer, recently retiring from SCI, Camp Hill. He will always be remembered for his integrity, bravery and love for his country.

He enjoyed watching football and basketball. He had a passion for cooking and barbecuing, but most importantly, spending time with his wonderful family and friends.

In addition to his parents and his wife Melissa, he is survived by three sons; Arthur "T.J." Hicks Jr. of Hampton, VA, Alex Hicks of SC, Aric Hicks of SC; two step-sons, Jovan Meek of Altoona and Augustine “A.J.” Shorter of Altoona; one brother, Rodney Hicks; two aunts, Sandy Hinton and Barbara Price; numerous grandchildren and one great-grandson. He is also survived by multiple step-children, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a public visitation from 4p.m. until the 6p.m. funeral service on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at the Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. Full Military Honors will immediately follow.

Interment will be private at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
