Bernard R. Rogers, 78, of Hollidaysburg passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born on January 17, 1944, in Winston-Salem, NC, he was the son of the late Geraldine Rogers. On June 12, 2010, he married the love of his life, Cecilia Cortes.
Bernard loved to travel with his wife and family. He was an avid photographer and would often capture the amazing sights and events of their trips. He was known for his grilling skills on his charcoal grill, feeding friends and family countless tasty meals. In his free time, he eased his mind and relaxed through wood carving and studying astronomy.
Bernard earned his bachelors of science in premedical at the University of Central North Carolina and his Doctor of Medicine at Meharry Medical School. He would go on to study radiation oncology at University of Minnesota and subspecialized in brachytherapy. Bernard practiced medicine saving countless lives over his faithful service to his communities for 43 years, the last 10 years of which were at Lewistown Hospital as Director of Cancer Treatment.
Along with his loving wife Cecilia, he is survived by one sister, Andrea Graham, a niece Angele Brown; his stepfather Gaston Graham; in-laws, Marites Cortes, Bobby Cortes, nephew Brian Cortes and niece Karen Cortes.
Family will receive friends from noon until 1pm on Friday, November 4, 2022 at The Good Funeral Home Inc. 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. A funeral service will be held at 1pm with Pastor Tim Bartholomew officiating. There will also be an additional time of visitation for family and friends immediately following the funeral service until 3pm.
