Obituary for Bernice Kay "Cookie" Berndt

Bernice Kay ‘Cookie’ Berndt

Oct. 30, 1944 – July 4, 2021

Bernice Kay “Cookie” Berndt, 76, of Altoona, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Gilbert W. and Dorothy (Hinkle) Brannen.

Surviving is her husband, Michael, whom she married on Dec. 28, 1979. Bernice is also survived by her daughter, Shannon Marie Mikolajczyk (Adam); a step daughter, Heather Lynn Hollen (Perry); and three grandchildren: Keone and Joaquin Hollen and Cowan Mikolajczyk.

Bernice was preceded in death by her sister, Carol L. Krause; and by her two cats, Suzie and Deliah.

She loved to make and grow everything. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, knitting, needlework, leather work, gardening, cooking, baking and canning/ preserves.

Bernice was a member of Garden Heights United Methodist Church and Jaggard United Methodist Churches in Altoona.

She was a 1962 graduate of Altoona High School and worked at Puritan/Warnaco, Automotive Supply Company and Plantscape.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8p.m. Friday July 9, 2021, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday July 10, 2021, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, with father Timothy Grimme officiating. Interment will take place in Alto Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society, 1837 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602; or to a charity of your choice.
