Obituary for Bernitta L. Cherry
Bernitta L. Cherry, 74, Altoona, died on June, 26, 2022 at PinnacleHealth in Harrisburg.
Born on March 10, 1948 in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Harold H. and Anna Isabel (Smith) Longenecker.
Bernitta is survived by her loving husband Ernest Cherry; 6 children, Donald, Dennis, LaVonne, Mark, Steven and Jason Cherry; 2 sisters, Tina Dixon and Sherry Bowie; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Solberg.
Bernitta enjoyed traveling with her husband Ernest especially out west and easily made friends everywhere they went. She was always talking about her family and wanted to find out more about her ancestry. She also enjoyed yard sailing and buying new hats and pins to add to her collection.
She retired after 25 years of service working for the PA Department of Education as an administrator and she was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
Friends and family will be received to honor Bernitta and her daughter Cynthia Solberg’s lives on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 from 5-7pm at The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona PA. A funeral service will take place at 7pm with Pastor Doug Pilot officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bernitta’s name may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church, 276 Maple Hollow Rd, Duncansville, PA 16635.
