Obituary for Bonnie Meadows Robeson

Bonnie (Meadows, Wees) Robeson
May 6, 1937 – February 15, 2023

Bonnie Meadows Robeson, 85, died on February 15th at her home in Hollidaysburg after an extended illness. She was born in Roaring Spring, the eldest child of Richard S. and Alice Evelyn ‘Lally’ Meadows.

Bonnie graduated from Hollidaysburg High School and Juniata College where she was both May Queen and Homecoming Queen. She then began teaching at Juniata Gap Elementary School in Altoona.
She married her college sweetheart, Ross Wees, and moved with him to Jamestown, NY and then to Lemoore Naval Base in CA where Ross was a Navy pilot and Bonnie continued to teach.

Bonnie and Ross had a wonderful life together, giving birth to two children, Richard and Kristen, before Ross was killed in active duty in 1969. After Ross’s death Bonnie moved back to Altoona where she earned her Master’s Degree at Penn State, and eventually met and married Dr. Joseph Robeson, Jr. in 1972. Two years later Bonnie’s youngest son, Scott, was born.

In 1981 Bonnie began working as a Reading Specialist for the Intermediate Unit. Her classroom was a camper that she drove to different schools each day. She then worked at Foot of Ten Elementary School for many years until she retired.

Throughout her life, Bonnie was always active physically, socially and in the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, traveling, playing tennis, golf and bridge, making many lifelong friends along the way.

Surviving are two children: Kristen Robeson-Grubb and her husband Peter Grubb, Scott Robeson; 5 grandchildren: Katie, Liam and Daniel Robeson-Grubb, Annabelle Robeson, Balak Robeson; 4 siblings: Janet Brumbaugh, Jane Meadows, Dex Meadows and Joellen Shiffman.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Wees; her husband, Joseph Robeson, Jr.; her son, Richard (Wees) Robeson; and her brother, Hunt Meadows.

Friends will be received at the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren from 4:00 – 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 2 and from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM celebration of life service on Friday, March 3. Pastor Linda Banaszak officiating.
