Obituary for Charles "Chuck " Louder

Charles Raymond “Chuck/Charlie” Louder, 95, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord on May 2, 2022. He was born in Altoona, son of the late James Roy Louder and Elda M. (Hollingsworth) Louder.

Charlie had four brothers and two sisters who preceded him in death: James R. Louder and Frank L. Louder of Altoona, George E. Louder of Modesto, Calif., Robert D. Louder of Ashville, N.C., Alma Tramer of Severna Park, Md. and Elda A. Gearheart of Andover, Mass.

Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Charlie joined the Navy in 1944, serving his country during WWII in the South Pacific Theatre.

After being discharged from the Navy, he independently owned a soft water business in Altoona called “American Soft Water.” He truly enjoyed his work and served his customers in Altoona and the surrounding areas for a total of 50 years.

Charlie had many hobbies and was gifted with many talents. He played the piano, organ and harmonica skillfully without one lesson. He enjoyed collecting fossils and rocks of all kinds; in addition, using his metal detector to search and find unusual artifacts.

Charlie was an avid sports enthusiast of all kinds. He enjoyed playing baseball, watching football and playing golf at Park Hills Country Club, and even flying small aircraft. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed driving motorcycles and mopeds for fun.

Charlie was a ‘one of a kind’ person. He was a selfless, compassionate and caring individual who would do anything to help his fellow man. Anyone who was fortunate to cross his path would have the greatest blessing a person could be given.
