Clair “Butch” G. Helsel

June 12, 1941 - July 10, 2019

Clair “Butch” G. Helsel. 78, of Altoona, passed away on Wednesday at his home.

Born in Altoona, he was the son of the late Fredrick Sr. and Shirley (Giarth) Helsel.

Butch is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carole (Buck) Helsel; a son, Bryan Helsel (Jamie Hissem); two daughters, Mindy Helsel (Ashley) and Tina Helsel (Shaun Keagy); three grandchildren, Kaylee Lill, Dakota Helsel (Sandy Rott) and Jenna Helsel; 3 great grandchildren, Sophia, Cooper and Brantley Helsel; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers Fredrick Jr. and Jim Helsel and his sister Joyce.

Butch was a man of many trades. He was the Fire Chief of the Sinking Valley Volunteer Fire Company for 25 years, worked for Stroehmanns Bread Company for 28 ½ years and also retired from the Tyrone Township. In his spare time he was an avid hunter, a gardener and enjoyed taking care of all of his animals. He even ran the Boston Marathon 3 times, something he would never let his family forget. Above all, Butch loved to spend time with his loving family, who will miss him dearly.

Family and friends will be received from 10-11am on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto Reste Park. A memorial service will take place following the visitation at 11am with Pastor Elizabeth Hess officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Butch’s name may be made to the Jaffa Shriners.
