Obituary for Daniel C. Leahey

Altoona - Daniel C. Leahey, a devoted husband, retired Captain of the Altoona Fire Department, and a beloved resident of Altoona, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg, PA.
He was 80 years old. Daniel was born on September 19, 1942, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, to the late Christopher C. and Camille (Dierling) Leahey.

On August 30, 1974, in Altoona, Daniel married his loving wife, Deborah (Alberts) Leahey, who resides in Altoona. Their union was a testament to their deep love and commitment, and they shared over 48 wonderful years together filled with joy, companionship, and shared adventures.

Daniel was a loving and devoted father to his four children, Tammy Walls (Edward) of Philipsburg, PA, Tim Leahey (Nora) of Columbia, SC, Danielle Deneen (Mel) of Altoona, and Chris Leahey (Ali) of Altoona. He took great pride in his children's accomplishments and was a constant source of support and guidance. Daniel's love for his family knew no bounds, and his children were fortunate to have him as a role model and a source of unwavering love.

He was also a proud grandfather to seven cherished grandchildren: Eddie (Katherine), Lindsey (Justin), Lauren (Jacob), Emily (Eric), Finn, Sophie, and Amelia. Daniel adored his grandchildren and relished in the time spent with them, creating lasting memories and sharing stories. He eagerly awaited the arrival of two great-grandchildren, who will carry his spirit and love into the future. He also leaves behind his cherished pup, Louie.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved siblings, Rose Fillman and Fred Leahey.
Daniel was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Altoona, where he found spiritual solace and a sense of community. He was also an active member of the Bavarian Aid Society and the Cesare Battisti Club, both in Altoona, where he enjoyed the company of friends and shared in cultural traditions. Daniel was also a member of the UVA Club in Altoona.

In his leisure time, Daniel found joy in his beloved 66 Chevelle, which brought him a sense of pride and enjoyment. He loved nothing more than cruising in his classic car. His laughter was contagious, and he had a knack for finding humor in everyday situations. Daniel's laughter and lightheartedness brought joy to those around him and created a warm and welcoming atmosphere wherever he went.

A public visitation to pay respects and offer condolences to the Leahey family will take place from 3pm to 8pm on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrating Daniel's life, will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 5519 6th Ave., Altoona, PA 16602. Following the funeral service, interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Altoona.
