Darwin Daniel “Dar” Miller, 94, Altoona, died Tuesday evening, May 28, 2019, at his residence
He was born in Lewistown, son of Elias John and Cora (Clapper) Miller. He married Elizabeth Ickes on Feb. 26, 1949, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 26, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters and a son: Ralph Miller of Tyrone, Betty “Ann” Hendrickson in Florida and Tracy Kessling of Hollidaysburg; two granddaughters; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Dar was a 1942 graduate of Altoona High School. He served in WWII as a sergeant and radio operator from June 1943 to February 1946, stationed in Italy. He was in the 767th Bombardment Squadron, 461st Bombardment Group, in the U.S. Army Air Corps, flying in the B24 Bombers.
He was employed by PRR, Penn Central and Conrail railroads until his retirement in 1985. He also drove a hearse for several funeral homes during furloughs from the Pennsylvania Railroad.
He was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Dar and his wife spent most of their retirement years in Florida where they enjoyed being “Florida tour guides” for visiting friends and family. He loved traveling and taking friends and family to places off the beaten path.
There will be no public viewing or service. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.
