Obituary for David C. McGarvey
A retired 29 year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police, David C. McGarvey, passed away
suddenly and peacefully in his home on Saturday morning, August 20, 2022, at the age of
56.
Born in Altoona on July 28, 1966, David graduated from AAHS, continuing his education at
Penn State with a degree in Administration of Justice in 1989, before graduating from the
Pennsylvania State Police Academy.
A man of integrity, honor, and character, David devoted his career to protecting and serving
his community where he touched lives and changed futures.
In his retirement, David loved traveling, golfing, hiking, and spending time with those he loved and who loved him. David was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church Hollidaysburg, PA.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Rita McGarvey; and his uncle
Daniel McGarvey, his inspiration for pursuing a career in law enforcement;
He is survived by his four children Sara, Mark, Carly, and Angela; his fiancé, Kelly Whitaker; his mother Lynn McGarvey and the mother of his children, Kim McGarvey.
Friends and family will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at the Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday August 25, 2022, at St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, 312 Clark St., Hollidaysburg, PA 16648. Interment and PSP Ceremonial Services will be private at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
