Dennis D. Imler, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, at UPMC Altoona Hospital. He was born on April 27, 1948, in Lakemont, PA, to the late Lowell and Charolette (Cassidy) Imler. Dennis was united in marriage to his loving wife, Bernadine (Kiniry) Imler, and together they shared a beautiful journey of love and companionship. Their bond was a testament to their commitment and dedication, and they faced life's joys and challenges as a team. Dennis leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories within his family. He is survived by his son, Brian Imler, married to Michelle; his daughter, Sherry Milcoff, married to James; and his son, Jeffrey Imler. Dennis adored his grandchildren, Kayla Kilch, married to Conner, Ashlee Shay Imler, Gabrielle Milcoff, Joshua Imler, and Jon-Michael Imler, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Indicia Padgett, who added another layer of happiness to his life. Dennis is survived by his brothers, Dwight Imler and Dana Imler, married to Denise, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dennis began his journey at Bishop Guilfoyle High School, where he graduated as a proud member of the Class of 1966. Following his education, he answered the call of duty and served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. His service exemplified his selflessness and dedication to defending the freedoms we hold dear. Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0516, where he found camaraderie and a sense of belonging among fellow veterans.
Professionally, Dennis dedicated over three decades of his life to Conrail as a locomotive painter. His meticulous work and attention to detail made him a valued member of the team. After his retirement, Dennis pursued his passion for gardening and operated the Imler Greenhouse. His green thumb and love for cultivating beautiful plants brought joy to his life and those who had the pleasure of visiting his greenhouse.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dennis had a deep love for trains. Collecting trains became a hobby that brought him immense happiness. Gardening and his train collection provided Dennis with solace and tranquility, allowing him to indulge in his passions.
Dennis D. Imler will be remembered as a devoted family man, a loyal friend, and a dedicated member of his community. His warm smile, kind heart, and gentle nature left an indelible impression on those fortunate enough to have known him. His love for his family, his service to his country, and his commitment to his work and hobbies will be treasured memories forever.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 4:8 P.M. at the Good Funeral Home, Inc., 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA, 16601.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, MAy 24, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, 2700 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA, 16601 with Father James Dugan officiating.
Burial will take place at Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA.
