Obituary for Donald R. Leighty

Donald Ralph Leighty, 87, of Newry, passed away June 17, 2022, peacefully at his home. He was born in Newry, a son of the late Lloyd Leighty and Mary (Holland) Leighty. He was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Leighty; and sisters: Leora Delionibus, Dorothy Sell and Lois Toth.

Don is survived by three children: Donna Meiser (Brian), Jacqueline Greenleaf (Scott) and Brent Leighty (Cris); nine grandchildren: Vanessa Colquhoun, Jesse Meiser, Brooke and Kelsey Pellegrine, Jennifer and Alex Greenleaf and Kaiya, Falyn and Taryn Leighty; and two great-grandchildren: Connor and Greta Colquhoun.

Don proudly served in the army for three years. He was stationed in England.

Don enjoyed many happy times with his children and grandchildren at the beach, skiing, hunting and boating. His greatest happiness in life was his family.

He was a businessman. With his great common sense and attention to detail, he worked very hard. He grew the family fruit stand into a large, successful farm market and greenhouse. He employed many people in his 60+ years in business. He also had a large flea market that he enjoyed running into his later years. He also had commercial and rental properties that he leased to franchises and tenants throughout the years.

With all his businesses, he still held his family above all.

In lieu of flowers, all contributions can be made in his memory to Newry Lions Club, P.O. Box 277, Newry, PA, 16665 for needed repairs and/or playground equipment for the park. Cards for the Don Leighty Family can be sent to P.O. Box 307, Newry, PA, 16665.

There will be very small private service, including immediate family only, at The Good Funeral Home Inc.
