Obituary

Doris Catherine (Baker) Grossman

Aug. 12, 1923 - March 3, 2020

Doris Catherine (Baker) Grossman, 96, Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg, was reunited in death with her many loved ones in the kingdom of heaven on Tuesday.

She was born in Chambersburg, daughter of Ross L. and Catherine M. (Bishop) Baker. Doris was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, and after three years of active duty during WWII, she married her high school sweetheart, Merle J. Grossman, on Jan. 3, 1946. Merle sadly preceded her in death on June 16, 2005.

Surviving are grandchildren: Rebecca (Kevin) Thomas, Brent (Sarah) Anderson and Matthew (Holly) Bottenfield; great-grandchildren: Aasta, Helena and Claira Thomas, Grace, Margot and Archer Anderson and Kathryn Bottenfield; a sister, Jean Moore; two sisters-in-law: Diana and Jean Baker; two sons-in-law: Richard Anderson and L. Mark Bottenfield; special friends: Claudia Anderson and Patsy Fownes; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends and caregivers at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters: Barbara Bottenfield and Pamela Anderson; and two brothers: William and Robert Baker.

Doris lived a big, beautiful, active life. Her greatest pride was in her family. She enjoyed bingo, crafting, shopping, trips to the Jersey Shore and spending time with her loved ones. Doris was the perfect example of class, grace and beauty.

Doris will be laid to rest privately with the love letters written to her during WWII by her husband, Merle. A celebration of life event will be scheduled during the summer. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.
