Elizabeth B. “Bess” McDowell, 101, of Rio Rancho, N.M., formerly of Altoona, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Chester H. and Catherine (Porta) Burket. She married Dr. Dale Waring McDowell in June, 1947 and he preceded her in death in June, 1950, in Korea.
Surviving are: her son, Dr. Thomas Dale McDowell; her grandson, Dr. Chester Dale McDowell; her sister, Florence Jackson; and 11 nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by four brothers: George, Harold, John, and Clyde; and her sister, Mary Kraft.
She attended Altoona High School and was a member of Grace United Church of Christ in Altoona. Elizabeth worked at Clearfield Fur and at the Altoona Hospital.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2021, at Alto Reste Park Cemetery, Altoona.
