Obituary

George Alan Salyards, Altoona, died unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 12, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Carl Albert and Anna Mae (Burket) Salyards. On June 27, 1981, he married Bethann Kim Gottshall.

Surviving are his wife; a daughter, Torie Kratzer and husband, Kirk; a son, Adam Salyards; six grandchildren: Nick, Garrett, Mitchell, Carson, Kimberly and Kassandra; two sisters: Carol Fellabaum and Marcia Salyards; five brothers: Dwayne, Jeff, Carl, John and Pat Salyards; and 27 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters: Paula Fenessey and Mary Panek, and a brother, Donald.

He was a graduate of Altoona Area High School and served in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Garden Heights United Methodist Church.

George loved and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed baseball, football and golfing with his grandchildren and never missed a sporting event of theirs and was the best grandfather ever.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2019, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, Pastor Lou Hileman officiating. Interment will be held in Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the We Honor Veterans Program, c/o Grane Hospice, 115 Union Ave., Altoona PA 16602.
