Gerald William “Jerry” Kyler went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 13, 2020 with his children by his side. He was 86. He was born in Clearfield, PA, on June 7, 1934, the youngest son of Blair and Edna Fargo. After his mother died, Jerry at age 3, went to live in Bigler, PA, with the Kyler’s, Robert Leonard and Edna Pearl, who later adopted him. He married Rachel Ann Sayers in Bigler on September 3, 1955. She preceded him in death on February 22, 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Cheri Kyler Wiley and husband Tom of Hilton Head Island, SC and his son Jeffrey Alan Kyler and wife Amylyn of Canonsburg, PA. Surviving also are five grandchildren, Katelyn (Johnston) and Ben Wiley and granddaughters Larissa, Emily and Sara Kyler. He was recently blessed with one great grandson, James Christopher Johnston. Jerry is survived by one brother, Howard Fargo and wife June of Summerfield, FL and a number of in-laws in the Clearfield, Philipsburg and Camp Hill areas. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marvin Fargo, Alton Fargo and Raymond Fargo and one sister, Joann (Fargo) Battles. Jerry was a long time member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of Mountain Lodge #281 F&M, a member of the Valley of Altoona Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars and the Jaffa Shrine where he belonged to the Oriental Band, the Shrine Club, Jesters and “Q” Club. He also belonged to the Bavarian Club, Cesar Batiste and Swiss Club in Altoona. Jerry worked his way up through Sears & Roebuck & Co. eventually managing the store in the Pleasant Valley Mall of Altoona. When he decided to leave the corporate world, he opened what had always been a dream of his – The Cheese Shoppe. Many hours were spent there as a family making party trays, baskets, cheese balls and eventually the best milkshakes in town when he decided to add hand dipped ice cream. It was on the way to Penn State and did a thriving business on football Saturdays with he and Rachel leaving in time to make kick-off. Whoever was working had to run out and change the score on the marquee during the games. Jerry was an active person who enjoyed the outdoors hunting, fishing, RV travels and Penn State football. He and Rachel traveled in their RV to every Penn State home game. Jerry was famous for his homemade Bloody Marys. They also belonged to a bowling league for years attempting to pass the skill on to their grandchildren with limited success. Jerry will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Rachel, at the Alto Reste Cemetery in Altoona, PA. Per his wishes, there will be no service.
