Obituary for Gerald L. Williams

Gerald L. Williams, 73, Hollidaysburg, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Kansas City, Mo., son of Dempsey and Lillian (McClosky) Williams.

Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Arlene (Lowe) Williams; two sons: Sean of Louisville, Ky., and Gabriel of Denver, Colo.; and a sister, Charlene Morris of Kansas City, Mo.

Gerald was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired as the CEO of the Van Zandt VA Medical Center and was responsible for the construction of the Vietnam Memorial Wall replica which stands in front of the hospital. On Sept. 9, 2009, he was awarded the Person of the Year award by the Blair Bedford Central Labor Council.

He was an avid reader of horror fiction and historical nonfiction books.

Friends are invited to celebrate Gerald's life with his family from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8, 2019, at Marzoni's, 1830 East Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona.
