Obituary for Gertrude Shaw

Gertrude D. (Spidle) Shaw, 96, devoted wife and loving mother of four sons, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday at the Village at Morrisons Cove. She was born in Newry, the daughter of John and Florence (Parker) Spidle.

She married her childhood sweetheart and the love of her life, Eldon H. “Ike” Shaw, on Dec. 21, 1943, and shared 70 years together until his passing in 2013.

Her greatest joy and pride were her family. She and Eldon raised four sons: Barry (Pat), Gary (Jonetta), Denny (Leigh Anne) and Doug, all of Duncansville; they blessed her with six beautiful granddaughters: Wendy (Andy) Taylor, Heather (Chris) Brooks, Robyn (Jeremy) Cherry, Courtney (Tim) Keith, Megan (Ian) Lamey and Madison Shaw; and three great-grandchildren: Morgen Taylor, Allison and Bryson Brooks who she adored. She also had many special nieces and nephews who meant the world to her.

Gertrude was a wonderful homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, ceramics and cooking. She was a member of the Newry Lutheran Church and later First United Methodist Church in Hollidaysburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon; parents; brother, Jack Spidle; and sister, Virginia Duncan.

Family will receive friends from 9:30 until the 10:30 a.m. service Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. Interment will be private at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.

She is at peace and finally united with her love, Eldon.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks contributions be made in her memory to The Village at Morrisons Cove, 429 S. Market St., Martinsburg, PA 16662.
