Obituary for Glenn Carl Brandt
Glenn Carl Brandt, 78, of Altoona, went home to be with the Lord Saturday at Graystone Manor at Bellemeade in Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, the son of the late Daniel and Alma (Poorman) Brandt. On Aug. 5, 1961, he married the love of his life, Shirley McKelvey, of Altoona and they recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Amy ( Phillip) Robertson of Altoona; two sons: Glenn II ( Betty) of Pittsburgh and Gregg Brandt of Greensburg; nine grandchildren: Courtney (Lindsey) Lee-Brandt, Catherine (Corrine) Stevens, Paige (Michael) McCarthy, James, Jenna, Edward, and Ellen Brandt, and Elliott and Noah Robertson; five great-grandchildren: Alex and Chloe McCarthy, Rebel and Gage Stevens, and Jack Lee-Brandt; two sisters: Donna Dodson of Wells Tannery and Ruby of Mount Union: three brothers: Wayne (Marian) and Robert Brandt, all of Sun City, Ariz. and Ronald (Linda) Brandt of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Clare Burk; a brother-in-law, Thomas McKelvey Sr.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers: George in Texas and William Brandt of Altoona.
He was a 1960 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years. Glenn was employed by Small Tube Products for many years and later retired from the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.
He was a devout Christian. He was a pillar of the former Garden Heights United Methodist Church, Altoona, and later, the First United Methodist Church of Hollidaysburg. Glenn was a 32nd degree Mason with Hiram Lodge 616 F&AM and a member and Past President of the Jaffa Clown Unit.
He was an avid outdoorsman who never missed deer season and enjoyed fishing the local rivers and streams and enjoyed sharing this love with his children and grandchildren. He was a Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football fan.
During his retirement, Glenn was very active with his loving family and will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019 and also from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Aug. 23, 2019 at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, Pastor John Godissart officiating. Interment with military honors will take place in Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
