Obituary for Glenn E. Dougal
Glenn E. Dougal of Altoona, went to be with the Lord due to complications from a dental procedure. His brother, Howard Dougal; caregiver, Jackie Weibley; and granddaughter, Jennifer Belgin were at his side.
Glenn E. Dougal (“Glenny”to his three brothers) was born on October 8, 1937. He was the son of Harry E. and Dora P. (Colyer). He was proceeded in death by his parents, an infant brother, Kenneth T. Dougal; a brother, Harry R. Dougal; a daughter Peggy A. Sipes (Judy); a son Randy Judy; a great-granddaughter, Madilyn Hope Belgin, He lost the love of his life, whom he called his, “Precious Gift from God,” his beloved wife, Dawnfloris Dougal (Arnold) in May 2014. Mr. & Mrs. Dougal’s beloved pets; dog, Poochie, and cat, Sammie will rest with them eternally.
Mr. Dougal graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1956. Staff Sergeant Dougal served in the Marine Corp Reserves from 1956-1960. He continued to serve in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1975 until his retirement in 1991. During his enlistments he was deployed to Wales with Charlie Company, 28th Infantry 56th Brigade, 112th Infantry. Battalion. He was later stationed in Germany with the 213th Area Support Group.
He was employed for over 40 years at Veeder-Root. He retired to enjoy his golden years with his wife.
Glenn E. Dougal’s faith defined him the most. On every voicemail he made, he ended with a prayer and, “Amen” rather than, “Goodbye.” He was an active member of Trinity UMC, Second Avenue UMC, and in his final years he was a member of Juniata UMC. He was a joyful member of the choir throughout his adult life. He also shared his love for singing as a member of the Altoona Chamber Choir.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In his spare time, he tied flies, created wood burning projects, and completed difficult puzzles. He enjoyed spending summers with his wife and family at his campgrounds at Treasure Lake and Glendale Year Round. He was a member of the Blair County Fish and Forestry Assoc. He enjoyed trap shooting with his brother, Howard. He was a charter member of the Mountain Detachment Marine Corp League. His other memberships included The Bavarian Aid Society and the Uter Uns Society. He was a lifetime supporter of the NRA and also generously supported the ASPCA.
Glenn is survived by two brothers; Ronald W. (Joyce), of Mesa, Arizona; and Howard E. (Denise) of Altoona. He has armfuls of beloved children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He had a very special relationship with his first grandchild, Jennifer Belgin (Dr. Brian) formerly of Altoona, now Sparks, Maryland. She spent much of her childhood with her grandparents making memories fishing, camping, going to church, or just having sleepovers. “Pap,” as he was called by all of his grandchildren, was exceptionally supportive of all of his grandchildren. He attended events, games, and ceremonies with the utmost pride and love.
In his final days, Glenn shared a special bond with his caretaker, Jackie Weibley. He enjoyed her company and his entire day revolved around when he would get to see her next. His favorite part of the day was her making him omelets, any way he wanted. Jackie accompanied Glenn to the hospital prior to his death and remained at his side until his last breath.
