Obituary for Glenn L. "Lanny" Edwards

Glenn (Lanny) L. Edwards, 78, passed away at home on Sunday, March 13, 2022, surrounded by his loving family in Altoona, PA. He was born on August 15, 1943, in Altoona, the son of Glenn and Elizabeth (Libby) Edwards. He graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1961 and worked at Veeder-Root for 43 years. Lanny served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division. He saluted his flag and shed tears for the national anthem when it was played.

He was a devoted husband to the mother of his children, Carol Hetrick, who preceded him in death on January 1, 1982. He later became husband and best friend to Lynne (Edmundson), whom he married on May 21, 1990. He was proud of his children: Wendy Giordano (Christian), Glenn Allen Edwards (Amanda), Lesley Kelner (Marc), Wendy Zborovancik, Kenneth (Chip) Musselman III, and Tracy White (Loren). He was Pappy Lanny to his nine grandchildren: Tyler, Matthew, Katelynn, Amber, Jade, Melanie, Nicholas, Ryan, and Braden; and three great-grandchildren: Connor, McKenna, and JR. He is also survived by two sisters: Judith Ricker and Deborah Foltyn (Conrad); two brothers-in-law: Melvin Edmundson (Barb) and Richard Edmundson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved his best bud Kit Kat. Lanny was preceded in death by his parents. He waited until the last of his family arrived and then said “Okay, everyone is here” before he took his last breath.

Lanny served as trustee for the Lakemont United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Hollidaysburg Masonic Lodge and a proud Shriner. He was instrumental in starting the Jaffa Kiddies Christmas Party Club and served as president for the event. He was Jaffa chief aide emeritus and past director of the Royal Order of Jesters (Court #70). Lanny was previously director of the Jaffa Calliope Clowns and was a member of the Jaffa Legion of Honor and The Q.

He was talented in many ways, always keeping busy with projects. He enjoyed not only working with wood, but also the challenge of crafting things out of paper and making them look like they belonged there. Lanny loved gardening in his backyard and especially putting smiles on children’s faces as Snuffy the clown in the circus. He enjoyed rooting for his Pitt Panthers (Let’s Go Pitt!) and camping with his family, where he would make the best steaks on the fire. There was not a trail he could not conquer.

Family will receive friends from 2-4PM and 6-8PM on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at The Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. An additional visitation time will be held from 10-11AM on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at the funeral home. The Funeral Service will begin at 11AM, followed by full military honors.

Burial will be private at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Jaffa Kiddies Christmas Party Club (mail check payable to Jaffa Kiddies Christmas Party Club at 2200 Broad Avenue, Altoona, PA, 16601).
