Obituary for Jack Preston Smith

Jack Preston Smith, 82, Lakemont, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 20, 2022.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Dean P. and Dorothy L. (Estep) Smith. On July 5, 1959, he married the late June E. Fix at the Lakemont Church of God. He was married to his best friend for over 58 years.

Surviving is a daughter Jacqueline A. Conrad and husband, John; twin sons: Michael D. Smith and wife, Deborah and Patrick R. Smith and wife Penny; Seven grandchildren: Michael (Dawn), Casey (David), Justin (Danielle), Patrick, Samantha (Marty), Matthew (Julia) and Mitchell; eight great grandchildren: Nevaeh, Baylin, Aaralyn, Sophia, Alaina, Jaylyn, Mason and Nathan; a sister Dolores Burns (Joe) of FL; a brother Ed Smith (Peggy) of WV; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Along with his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister and brother in law: June and Joe Miller of Lakemont. 

Jack was a graduate of Altoona High School. Jack retired after 41 years from McLanahan Corporation.

He was a lifetime member of Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company with over 55 years of service, the Central District Fireman’s Association, Moose Lodge 74, the Bavarian and the Heidelberg. 

Jack’s family was what he treasured most. His pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Each week they got together for “Friday Night Dinner Club” (FNDC) for an evening of food, fun and fellowship. He also enjoyed his monthly breakfast with his retired McLanahan friends. 

At Jack’s request, services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Entombment will be at Blair Memorial Park. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jack’s name may be made to a charitable organization of your choice.
