Obituary for James Vincent "Jim" Aveni

James ‘Jim’ Vincent Aveni, 93, of Martinsburg, PA, formerly of Altoona, entered into Glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 5, 2022.

Jim was born in Johnstown, PA on July 28, 1928. He was the son of the late Charles and Freda Aveni (Korber). On December 27, 1952, he married the love of this life, Violet Ruth Claycomb, and they shared 70 wonderful years together.

Jim is survived by: his wife; his daughters Debbie Brandimarte, Susan Drogan and Brenda Vruggink; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Jim was a graduate of Johnstown High School. After high school, Jim served in the United States Navy as an Electrician’s Mate Fireman. His time in the Navy led to a long career with Penelec Electric Company.

Jim's life was about God, Family and Country.

He was an active member of the Mardorf United Methodist Church in Juniata, and Bice Memorial Chapel at Homewood in Martinsburg.

Most of all, Jim loved spending time with his family. He cherished every moment he got to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and especially loved when the whole family was together. He and Violet enjoyed the blessed life that they shared.

Jim gave his time to help people in need. He served in the United Way and Junior Achievement, and as a member of the Hiram Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons and the Jaffa Shrine.

Services for Jim will be private. Internment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be sent to the Homewood at Martinsburg’s Benevolent Fund.
