Obituary for James D. Brown

James D. Brown, 56, of Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 8 , at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Warren, OH; a son of Evelyn (Krutko) Brown and the late Walter Brown Sr.

On August 19, 1989, he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Robin (Vesey) Brown of Hollidaysburg.

James graduated from Maplewood High School in 1984 while simultaneously completing the industrial electricity program at the Trumbull County Career and Technology Center, formerly Trumbull County Joint Vocational School. Over the years James worked towards his associates degree in electrical engineering and eventually graduated with his bachelors degree of computer systems management, summa cum laude, from St Francis University in 2011. Of the several jobs James performed in his lifetime, his favorite was his most recent as an Electrical Controls Engineer for NPC, in Claysburg, PA, where he was a respected member of the NPC family. Despite all of the health challenges he faced, it was important that he continued to work and provide for his family.

In his early years, James was an avid hunter who greatly enjoyed the outdoors and worked on cars with his family. He enjoyed and was proud of his 2012 red Ford Mustang, which he left to his granddaughter. More recently, James had fun grilling on his blackstone, cooking delicious meals. Over the years James had many family pet cats and he was often their favorite. During times of uncertainty and difficulty James sought comfort in his faith and through listening to Mercy Me & The Message on Sirius XM.

James was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was the person to go to for life advice and if he didn't have the answer, he did not stop searching until he found it. He will always be remembered as the most supportive, encouraging, and loving father. James loved spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter and best friend, Lillian (his Lilly bug). They enjoyed playing Legos, Barbies, watching Spiderman and Scooby Doo, playing outside, making crafts, and looked forward to weekly Saturday night sleepovers.

In addition to his mother, Evelyn, and his wife, Robin, he is survived by two daughters, Rose Kravos and her husband Kurt of Hopewell Twp., and Madalyn Brown and her fiance’ Zack Helmick of Hollidaysburg; one granddaughter, Lillian Brown of Hollidaysburg; two siblings, David R. Brown (Ruthanne) of Cortland, OH and Debbie Cleland of Niles, OH; one niece and one nephew, Leanne Brown and David J. Brown , of Cortland, OH.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Brown Sr, and mother-in-law, Shirley Vesey.

There will be a public visitation from 6pm-9pm on Friday, March 17, 2023, and from 10am until the funeral service at noon on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. Interment will immediately follow at Alto Reste-Park, Altoona.
