James Walter Horne Jr., of Altoona, formerly of Hollidaysburg died Monday, August 30, 2021, at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late James and Marjorie (Dibert) Horne. He married Barbara Heichel on September 1, 1973, at Upper Spruce Creek Presbyterian Church, Graysville, PA.
Jim graduated in 1960, from Hollidaysburg High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1963, and retired from Penn Public Spring Shop in 2000, after 32 years of service. After retirement he was a driver for Blair Senior Services and an Uber driver.
He enjoyed working in his workshop. He was a very talented self taught musician, he was an award winning Banjo player who enjoyed playing and singing Bluegrass music. Jim also performed with various musical groups.
He attended First Church of Altoona.
In addition to his wife Barbara, he is survived by three sons and a daughter, Mike (Missy) of Liberty Indiana, Jeff of Hollidaysburg, Kristin (Lou) Nardelli of Altoona, and Jason (Jayme) of Altoona; ten grandchildren, Amanda, Mike, Justin, Nathaniel, Isabella, Noah, Jude, Kenley, Brooke, Briella; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Donna Sprow of Duncansville, Barbara Trenger of Coco, FL and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas and infant son Jimmy.
Family will receive friends from 4-8PM on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at The Good Funeral Home Inc, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 10AM at the funeral home, with full Military Honors. Pastor Dale DiBernardinis will be officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
