James H. ‘Jim’ Pritchard

March 5, 1934 - May 20, 2021

James H. “Jim” Pritchard, 87, of Altoona, passed away Thursday at Epworth Manor, following an extended illness. He was born in Gallitzin, son of the late Gorman and Mildred (McCartney) Pritchard. Jim was twice married, first to Jean Meckes in October 1957, and then to Joanne Hileman in June 1961.

Surviving are: his four sons: James Jr. (Sandy) of Tyrone, Eric J. (Meg) of Wyncote, Pa, Matthew J. of Long Island City, N.Y. and Paul J. Pritchard (Laura) of Chapel Hill, N.C.; seven grandchildren: Sam, Jessie, Katie, Ellie, Walker, Anthony and Katelyn; three great-grandchildren: Lydia, Jane, and Gavin; a sister, Judy Hoover (Richard) of Altoona and his brother, Wayne of Washington D.C.; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his sister, Thelma Snyder and her husband, Jerry.

Jim was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Altoona, He was the executive director of Blair County Community Action for 30 years. He was a faithful PSU football fan, having attended home games for decades and tailgated with friends and family. He enjoyed Tyrone football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and gardening. He loved reading, helping anyone in need and, at one time, was very active with Alcoholics Anonymous, as he had been sober for over 30 years and was very proud of that accomplishment. Jim was very motivated by politics and he was a proud Democrat, but most of all he loved and took great pride in his four sons.

Jim attended Roosevelt Junior High School, Altoona High School, and Penn State University. He was also a proud U.S. Marine Corp veteran.

All services will be private. Interment will take place in Alto Reste Park Cemetery.
