Obituary for Jay Lewis Laird Sr.
Jay Lewis Laird, 78, went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 17, 2022.
He was born in Philipsburg, PA; a son of the late John and Fern (Huff) Laird.
Jay served in the U.S. Army for 15 years. He obtained the rank of Captain and received the Bronze Star while in Vietnam as a Psyops Special Forces.
He was a Boy Scout Leader and a 4H Leader, coached soccer and track for his children's teams. He made sure to attend as many of his grandchildren's games, recitals and activities.
He is survived by his soul mate Sandra (Limbert) Laird who he married 60 years ago on October 6, 1962; three children, Jay Laird II and his wife Rae Marie, Yolanda Laird, and John Laird and his wife Giovanna. He was the proud “Poppy” to John Laird, Jay Laird III, Branden Laird, Dante Laird, Adriano Laird, and Alannah Laird and great grandson, Miles Laird.
Family and friends will be received from 11am-1pm on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at the Second Avenue Methodist Church, Altoona, PA. where he was a member. Funeral Services will be at 1pm, at the church, with Pastor Brian Sandell officiating. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jay Laird’s memory to St. Jude's Children research 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
