Obituary

John L. Laird, 83, Altoona, passed away Tuesday morning at his home after an extended illness.

He was born in Grazierville, son of the late John L. and Fern M. (Huff) Laird. John married Jean Troutman, who preceded him in death in 1996 after 30 years of marriage. He then met Grace Miner, who he married on May 9, 2013.

Surviving are his loving wife, Grace; two stepsons: Lee Trevatha and John Burns; three stepdaughters: Johnna Thompson, Wanda Berry and Erica Wilson; step daughter-in-law, Diane Trevathan; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jay Lewis Laird.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wade Lee Laird.

John was an exterminator in Maryland and he worked for Aniel and Sonita Gupta as the store manager. He also trained Belgian Malinois and German Shepherds for the local police academy. He attended the Canan Station Mennonite Church in Altoona.

He was a proud Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne division.

John was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need and would give the shirt off his back without question. He will be missed dearly.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, at the Canan Station Mennonite Church, 865 Burns Ave, Altoona, PA 16601. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's name to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 352, Altoona, PA 16603.
