Obituary for Katherine M. "Kitty" Grimme (Weaver)

June 10, 1944 - February 28, 2023

Katherine ‘Kitty’ M. (Weaver) Grimme, 78, of Altoona, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Altoona on June 10, 1944, and was the daughter of the late Charles Faust and Irene (Weaver) Swain.

On Oct. 30,1963, Kitty married the late James ‘Rod’ Grimme. They enjoyed over 40 years together until his passing on Nov. 10, 2007, and the reunion of them in heaven was surely breathtaking.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Kitty is survived by her sons, Matthew (Tina) and Mark (Marilyn) Grimme; daughters, Robin (Lloyd) Moyer and Kathryn Grimme; grandchildren, Matthew Jr., Paul and Jessica Grimme, Amber Noel, Liza (Nicholas) Cover, Nathan Grimme, and Kayla (Nicholas) Grimme-MacDuffie; and 12 great grandchildren.

She was a 1962 graduate of the Altoona Area High School. After high school, she enlisted in the United States Air Force where she served as an administrative assistant before her honorable discharge.

Kitty spent her career as a factory worker for Saf-T-Bak sportswear in Altoona, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Altoona

She enjoyed gardening, writing poetry and stories, listening to the oldies, and especially loved watching ‘Her Cowboy Movies’. She had a special bond with all animals. Kitty had a heart for rescuing animals, and had numerous wildlife friends visit her at the Hillview Chateau over the last few years for a meal. She was a giver, often cooking meals for the neighborhood children, and lending a helpful hand whenever she could. Most of all, she cherished every moment spent with her family.

There will be a public visitation for Kitty at The Good Funeral Home, Alto-Reste Park on Friday, March 3rd from 12:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Catholic Liturgy. Father Lubomir Stecok will be officiating. A Graveside service with military honors will take place immediately following the Catholic Liturgy at Alto-Reste Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Kitty’s name to the Central PA Humane Society, 1837 E Pleasant Valley Blvd, Altoona, PA 16602.
