Louise (Modica) Modis, Benko, Young
Louise, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 in Palmyra, PA at the home of her son and daughter-in-law. Born on December 14, 1925 in Bolivar, PA she was often described as a "spitfire"; something her family could attest to as she was larger than life, but the passion, independence, and love she gave to all of us made us the individuals we are today. She may be physically gone, but her spirit continues to live through her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Louise was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her three children, Floyd Albert Benko, second husband, William Young; her father, Nicholas Modica, mother, Bertha Mae (Nyman) Modis Rummell; brothers, John, James and Andrew Modis, Albert, Kelsie and Robert Rummell; sisters Violet Marie (Modis) Caldwalder, Bertha (Modis) Regula Cole, MArgaret (Modis) Hamula and Elsie (Rummell) Troup. She is survived by her children, Donna (Richard) Benko Koval, Floyd Alber (Ann) Benko, Jr. and Myra Benko (Frederick) Hoffer, sic grandchildren, Sara (Chris) Koval Hayes, Justin (Laura) Koval, Sean Frederick, Katie Frederick, Ethan Koval and Zane Frederick; five great-grandchildren Isabella, Julia and Emeila Hayes, and Mason and Logan Koval; one sister, Anna (rummell) Hildebrand; her sister-in-law Eleanor Benko and many nieces and nephews.
Louise was an excellent seamstress, cook, and baker. We all have memories of her special cinnamon buns and Sicilian pizza, two of her specialties! She worked tirelessly and fought endlessly to remain independent and self-sufficient until the very end and she instilled that same strong character in all of us. Her presence will be sorely missed, but she gave us all a lifetime of memories to cherish.
