Obituary for Mabel Elizabeth McVey (Howard)

Mabel Elizabeth (Howard) McVey, 88, of Hollidaysburg, passed away April 28, 2022 at Maybrook Hills. Born on February 10, 1934, in Claysburg, PA. She was the daughter of the late Lloyd Ebersole and Stella (Smith) Ebersole. She married Earl R. Howard who preceded her in death on August 3, 1986. She then married Raymond E. McVey on March 23, 1996. He preceded her in death on January 1, 2017.


Mabel was a school teacher for over 30 years. She taught at the St. Michael’s Catholic School, in Hollidaysburg, the Calvary Baptist Christian Academy, and retired from the Great Commission School in 2000. She taught grades K-2 but especially enjoyed the youngsters in Kindergarten. Her love for teaching carried over into the church where she taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Altoona.


Some of her hobbies included: reading, gardening, canning, and reading her bible. Mabel was always lending a helping hand to others. She was a devoted wife and mother, proud grandmother and a loyal friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


She is survived by her daughter: Jennifer Gallagher (Allan) of Hollidaysburg, PA; two granddaughters: Alyssa Geisbrecht (Luke) and Kara Detwiler (Paul); two great-granddaughters: Savannah and Madison Geisbrecht; her two siblings: Carol Trexler (Ken) and Oscar Ryen. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Visitation will be on Sunday, May 1st from 2:00-5:00 p.m., at the Good Funeral Home Inc, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 5:00 p.m. with Larry Weaver officiating.


Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
