Obituary for Marie M Riedle

Marie M. Riedle

July 22, 1939 – Dec. 19, 2021

Marie M. Riedle, 82, of Hollidaysburg, led by Our Blessed Mother, went to be with our Lord on Sunday surrounded by all her family. She was born in St. Johns Newfoundland, Canada, daughter of the late William and Mary Lake.

Survived by her four beloved children: Barbara (Tim) Cikovic, Joseph (Laurie) Mozina, John (Pam) Mozina, Brenda (Tom) Wiedman; ten perfect grandchildren: Dawn Marie (Robert), Donald (Megan), Matthew (Valerie), Brittany (Ryan), Alicia (AJ), Michael, Vincent, Catherine (Nick), CJ and McKayla; nine amazing great-grandchildren: Kitana, Kaden, Kambria, Kolsen, Mason, Casey, Addison, Ellie and Santino; three sisters: Bernadette, Bernice and Margie (Ontario); two brothers, Brian (British Columbia) and Ron (Ontario); and many nieces and nephews.

In July 1958 she married her first love, an Air Force serviceman, Joseph Mozina, in St. Johns Newfoundland. She was a homemaker for two years before moving to Duncansville. She continued doing what she loved most, being a homemaker to four children before becoming a single mother in 1968.

Marie began her fight to keep her young children and to remain in "the states." Her first job was sewing in the Silk Mill and waitressing at the Blairmont Club. Later she left both and worked as a waitress at Park Hills, the Rustic Isle, her favorite the Sheraton where she remained for many years. Later she went on to manage the club house at Summit Country Club.

She married Wayne Hammond in 1978 and moved to Baltimore Md., where she gained five stepchildren she loved: Theresa, Susan, Brett, Nan and Lisa. When her husband retired, they moved back to the Duncansville home. She returned to waitressing at the Ramada and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also loved gardening and shopping for crafts with her best friend, Taney.

While attending Sacred Heart, Marie found joy being part of the Legion of Mary. She retired and they moved to Florida in 2003, where she continued to grow her faith and devotion for Our Blessed Mother. Marie was so proud to become an American citizen in 2007.

She served with deep devotion as a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion and Altar Server, where she received several service awards at St. Vincent DePaul Parish.

Marie and Wayne shared 32 years together, until his death in 2010.

She remained in Florida doing volunteer work before finding love and companionship with "Bob" Riedle and they married in March 2011. They continued volunteer work at St. Timothy's Parish, until Bob lost his battle with cancer in October 2012.

She returned home to Pennsylvania in 2013 where she continued her volunteer work at Our Lady of Lourdes as a Christian Mother and a Eucharistic Minister at Garvey Manor.

Marie endured several excruciating back surgeries, the last when she was 80 years old and could no longer walk, until her angel Dr. Okonkwo and his team gave her life and mobility back.

Marie was a disciple of Christ and the strongest, most courageous person we've ever known. Her life was remarkable and she loved her family more than life itself. Her faith and family were everything. We wanted this obituary to be different, because her never ending struggles and fight to be a better person taught all of us to keep our faith and remain strong.

Speaking to the struggling single mothers fighting to make it: Know you have the strength within yourself and to trust in our Lord Jesus Christ and Our Blessed Mother.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Marie was preceded in death by her brothers: Douglas, William, Gerald and Dermot.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 5 to 7 p.m. Monday Dec. 27, 2021, The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park. A Rosary Service will be held at 6 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Dec. 28, 2021, at Our Lady of Lourdes. Father Dugan officiant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Our Lady of Lourdes Christian Mothers.
