Obituary for Marla Jessie Heinz (Seidel)
MARLA J. HEINZ
Mrs. Marla Jessie Heinz (Seidel) of Altoona, PA, passed away at her residence after a brief illness on January 3, 2020, at the age of 79.
Marla was born to parents John Phillip Seidel, Pfc. 2nd Div USA World War I, and Gladys May Nearhoof Seidel, originally of 700 Pleasant Valley Boulevard, on March 18,1940. She grew up as the youngest of two daughters, and graduated from Altoona High School in 1959. Immediately following graduation, Marla parlayed her kind disposition and love of talking with people into a 41-year career as a customer service representative with the Bell Telephone Company.
Prior to her retirement, Marla married Russell Milton Heinz of Altoona, in 1998. The couple enjoyed traveling together, and selling furniture, jewelry, and other items at Antiques & Collectibles Shows up and down the eastern seaboard. Marla also spent her time volunteering at various community organizations throughout her life. She was particularly proud of being an active participant with the Foster Grandparent Program at Logan Elementary School right up until the time of her death.
Marla is survived by her cousin, Linda K. Myers (Nearhoof) of Leesburg, VA, whom she grew up with and remained close to; and her second cousins, Lisa Mason of Pittsboro, NC, Kami Myers of Ashburn, VA; Christopher Myers of Ashburn, VA; and Amy Myers-Payne of Leesburg, VA. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell (2003); her parents, John (1976) and Gladys (1984); and her beloved older sister, Eleanor M. Seidel (1961).
The interment of ashes took place with a private family service on Friday, January 10, at 12:00 p.m. at Alto-Reste Park. The family declines flowers, but is grateful to receive letters of condolences at: c/o The Estate of Marla J Heinz, 40668 Woodside Place, Leesburg, VA 20175.
