Mary Jean Wood, 84, of Altoona, passed away peacefully at her residence Saturday. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel Cross.

She married Arthur Wood on July 17, 1960.

Surviving is her husband, Arthur Wood, of 62 years; a daughter, Rebekah Wood-Greenland; son-in-law, Vince Greenland; and four grandchildren: Emma, Maggie, Alizah and Olivia. Mary Jean is also survived by a brother, Thomas Cross in New Jersey.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Rebecca “Becky” Cross.

Mary Jean graduated from PSU with a B.S. degree and taught science at Keith Junior High School. She also obtained her Masters from IUP, and was a guidance counselor at Altoona High School and various elementary schools. In her younger years, she helped dip ice cream at her family's store, Cross’s Ice Cream.

Mary Jean loved spending time with her family. Her granddaughters kept her very busy.

A private family service will be held at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
