Obituary for Merle Alden Manning

January 20, 1927 –September. 13, 2021

Merle Alden Manning, 94, of Hollidaysburg, passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 2021, at home. He was born in Port Allegany, PA, a son of the late Frank and Letha (Shelly) Manning. On Sept. 20, 1958, in Honesdale, PA, he married Anita (Billard) Manning who survives at home.

Merle served his Country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a Mechanic for most of his life working on different heavy equipment. During his earlier years, he loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, flying his plane and going boating on the lake. He enjoyed working on cars and watching the trains whenever he could. Most importantly, he cherished time spent with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Gary L. Manning (Cindy) of Spring Mills, Thomas M. Manning (Jeannie) of Rural Valley, and Bonnie M. Conrad (Jack Campbell) of Duncansville; six grandchildren, Shanon Manning, Christa Zubik, Scott Manning, Joshua Conrad, Jeremy Conrad, and Erin Conrad; one sister, Esther Weimer. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers: Paul, Lloyd, Lee and his grandson, Dustin Manning.

Family will receive friends from 6-8PM on Thursday, September 16, 2021, at the Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1PM on Friday, September 17, 2021, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 312 Clark St, Hollidaysburg, with Fr. Alan Thomas officiating. Burial with full Military honors will follow at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
