Obituary for Phyllis "Pahl" Dunkel

PHYLLIS DUNKEL 1929-2023

Phyllis (Pahl) Dunkel of Hollidaysburg danced into heaven on Saturday, May 13th from the Altoona Center For Nursing Care. She was born in Bridgeport, Ohio to the late Caston Claus and Mabel (Bishop) Pahl.
Phyllis graduated from Warwood High School in Warwood, West Virginia in 1947.

On December 27, 1948 , Phyl married the love of her life, Ray R. “Dunk” Dunkel in Warwood, West Virginia. He preceded her in death in 2006. The couple lived in various places, including North Carolina, Tennessee and
Texas. They eventually ended up in Altoona, where Dunk was from and also lived in Martinsburg before moving to Blue Knob Resort, where the family lived and worked from 1964 until mid-1974.
Phyl always said that the best times of her life were while living and working at Blue Knob, where she was the office manager. Although she was never much of a skier, she loved the life at the resort and the mountain
and made many lifelong friends. Phyl loved dancing and missed her Friday night dance outings with Dunk
and all their friends.

She enjoyed playing golf and was a past president of he Sylvan Hills Ladies Golf Association. She also loved going to Silver Sneakers classes and lunch outings with all of her “Sneaks” friends, which most times included a margarita!

Phyl was also preceded in death by her daughter, Dottie Rae and by her brothers Bill and Don Pahl and grandson, Bob Brumbaugh. Phyl loved her family above all else. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Biddle of Altoona and Donna (Ralph) Himes of Hollidaysburg, brother Fred (Anne Dee) of Carlsbad, California as well as grandchildren Jody Tussey, Heather Henninger, Travis Henninger, Tracy Brumbaugh and Hannah Carr. She is
also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren.

Phyl’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Amber Terrace and the Altoona Center For Nursing Care.

A public visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Friday, May 19, 2023, and from 10 until the 11am funeral service on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at the Good Funeral Home, 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, PA. Interment will be private at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
