Obituary for Ralph "Toby" McKendree

Ralph “Toby” McKendree, 73, Duncansville, passed away on Thursday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Bellwood, a son of the late Paul and Mildred (Benton) McKendree. On June 9, 1969, Toby married Patricia Hartz who preceded him in death.

He is survived by one son, Travis McKendree (Heidi); four sisters: Mary Ann, Helen “Chew,” Joanne and Celicia; four grandchildren: Rebecca, Melanie, Michael and Maddox; one great-grandchild; and his beloved bulldog, Mack.

Along with his parents and wife, Toby was preceded in death by one brother, Mike; and three sisters: Dot, Bonnie and Shirley.

He was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School, where he played football. He passed on that passion to his son through coaching, and most recently, his grandson. Toby was also an avid bowler, and played in several leagues throughout the area.

When he was younger, he learned to play the drums and was a member of a band that would play shows around town. In his later years, he showcased his talent by playing the drums for his church. He also enjoyed hunting, especially with his grandson.

Toby proudly served his country in the United States Army. When he returned from the military, he began working at the railroad where he retired after 30 years of service.

Friends and family will be received at the Claysburg Church of God, 4311 Evergreen Road, Claysburg from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to the 7:00 PM funeral service on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, with Pastor Kim Swindell offficiating.

A memorial service for Patricia McKendree will be included with the services.

Memorial flowers for Toby and Patricia may be sent to Claysburg Church of God.
