Obituary for Raymond L. Beck

Raymond Lewis Beck (Ray), 95, of Altoona, passed away July 6, 2022. He was born in Huntingdon and was the son of Lewis and Viola (Foster) Beck of Alexandria.

He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Adaline (Sharp) Beck and 5 children, Ronald (Sharon) of Stewartstown, Karen (Robert) Morris of Myrtle Beach, SC, Cathy (Greg) Meloy of Little River, SC, Vicki Beck of Mechanicsburg, and Amy Beck of Halstead, KS, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. His son, David passed away in 2019.

Ray joined the Navy in 1944, missing his high school graduation, and served as a radioman aboard the USS Attala in the Pacific during WWII. After marriage, the couple settled in the Baltimore area where they raised their children. Ray worked as an electronics technician with the Glen L Martin Company for many years and relocated the family to Okinawa for 3 years in the 1960’s and then returned to Baltimore. He ended his career with Motorola in Harrisburg moving to Altoona upon his retirement.

He loved reading, genealogy research, stamp collecting, driving anywhere his car would take him, and traveling dirt roads just to see where they went.

There will be a private burial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
