Obituary for Richard A. Claar

July 27, 1942 – Nov. 19, 2022

Richard A. Claar, 80, Altoona, has victory through his Lord, Jesus Christ, after a courageous three year battle against lung cancer. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Willard and Elsie (Gates) Claar.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn (Menza) Claar; and a brother, John.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Dottie (Freeman) Claar; a son, Richard A. “Rick” Claar Jr.; grandchildren, Megan and Evan Claar; stepchildren; and step grandchildren; sisters, Doris Thomas and Rosella Seltzer; brothers, Melvin and Irvin Claar (Kathy). He is also survived by nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Susan Friday and family.

Richard was a 1962 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He served his country in the U.S. Army, 39th Signal Battalion from 1962-65; serving one of those years in Vietnam.

He was employed by Bell Atlantic (Verizon) retiring in 1995, and the Home Nursing Agency until 2009.

Richard enjoyed time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed local high school basketball and football events as well as being a Penn State fan. Richard spent time traveling, bicycling and was always ready to discuss the Bible. II Tim 4:7

At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or funeral service. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
