Richard Dale "Gunny" Gunsallus, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday at his residence at The Winds at Mattern Orchard.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Philo and Mildred (Snowberger) Gunsallus. Richard married Beverly A. Blackburn on March 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 5, 2014.
Surviving are his daughter, Deborah A. Gracey; two sons: Richard M. and Douglas I. Gunsallus; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Gracey.
Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. He worked for Penelec for 41 years retiring as an electrical equipment supervisor.
He was a very active member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Daytona, Fla., where he served as secretary and property manager.
Richard was a past master of Hiram Lodge 616, 33rd degree Mason, 50 year pin; Commander in Chief of Consistory of Altoona Chapter; member of Tall Cedars, Altoona; Jaffa Shrine, where he was a past Potentate in 1988, member of Knights Templar, Road Runners, Royal Order of Jesters and Commandrey.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park, the Rev. Roy Steward officiating. Entombment will take place in Alto-Reste Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jaffa Shrine Endowment Fund, 2200 Broad Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
