Robert E. Charlton, 81, of Duncansville passed away Tuesday night at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness.

He was born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Alvin and Louise (Kettle) Charlton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Margaret (Ferraro) Charlton; two sons, Mark Charlton and wife, Michele, and Mark DeBernardis and wife Wendy; two daughters, Laurie Leamer and husband Pat, and Amy Chadbourn and husband Doug; nine grandchildren; his first great-granddaughter, Sawyer Rose; as well as numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, David DeBernardis; and sister, Bette Wiltman.

Robert was affiliated with the National Car Association and served his country in the Army National Guard 28th Division for 6 years. He was the proud owner and operator of Charlton Motors for 47 years and loved working side by side with his son Mark Charlton for the last 33 years.

Robert was a true family man, always planning and throwing parties and hosting holiday events whenever he could. He loved nothing more than to spend time with his family and friends, joking, laughing and making lasting memories. He especially loved his grandchildren and was extremely proud of all of their athletic accomplishments.

In his free time he enjoyed going to casinos to play craps and blackjack, as well as riding his Harley.

Robert will be truly missed by his family and his special friends; Chuck, Bernie, Gary, Rhonda and Bill.

Friends will be received for a visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto Reste Park. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. following the visitation at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery with military honors by the Blair County Honor Guard. Arrangements are by The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park.
