Robert “Bob” L. LaMorte, 78, of Newry, entered into glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday. He was born in Altoona, the son of the late John and Grace (Finochio) LaMorte.
Bob is survived by his daughters: Wendy LaMorte, Donita Hord (R. Scott) and Mindy Rokosky; brother, John LaMorte (Jan); sister, Clara Hite; and grandchildren: Jacob and Rachel Hord and Luke and Ava Rokosky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Michael “Mickey” LaMorte.
Bob was a proud 1961 graduate of Altoona High School. After high school, Bob served in the United States Air Force as a crew chief on a KC-135 tanker.
He spent most of his career as a firefighter, and earned the rank of Captain of the Altoona Fire Department before retiring. Bob went on to serve as the lead test technician for PSU Transportation Research.
Bob was an active member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church.
He served on the AASD Foundation board from 1993-2006, as the president from 2002-04, and on the board of the Railroaders Memorial Museum and Altoona Symphony. He loved his community and was a true servant leader.
Bob enjoyed riding his bike on the Rails to Trails, traveling, visiting historical sites and Civil War history. He was an avid reader and a patriot. His love of our country guided him throughout his life. Most of all, Bob loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial service, with Military Honors and Last Call, for Bob will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at Puzzletown Road Bible Church in Newry, with Pastor Jon Gross officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s name may be sent to the VA Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602.
