Rozella M. (Wall) Chestney, 103, of Altoona, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2023, at the Allegheny Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg, PA.
Rozella was born on December 13, 1919, in Altoona, to her parents, Arthur and Sarah (Clark) Wall. She spent her entire life in the city she called home. On December 28, 1951, Rozella married the love of her life, Donald L. Chestney, at the Fifth Ave. United Methodist Church in Altoona. Donald preceded her in death on June 6, 2005.
She is survived by four sons, Jeffrey Chestney, James Chestney (Joyce), Joseph Chestney (Donna), and Dr. Thomas (Cynthia) Chestney, all of Altoona. Rozella's love extended to her eight grandchildren: Jeffrey Chestney Jr., Jennifer Beach (Cody), Jamie Chestney, Jaclyn Chestney, Molly Tarin (Matthew), Joshua Chestney (Katie), Meredith Montgomery (Nate), Maggie Conway (Cameron), and Erica Clontz. She was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren. Additionally, Rozella is survived by her sister-in-law, Patricia Wall, four nephews, and one niece. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jarret Chestney, her sister Thelma Burnshire, her brother Arthur Wall, and her daughter-in-law, Dana Chestney.
Rozella's education began at Altoona Area High School, where she graduated in 1938. She furthered her studies at the Altoona School of Commerce.
A woman of faith, Rozella was a dedicated member of Greenwood United Methodist Church. Throughout the years, she actively participated in the church choir and served on the administrative board. She found solace and strength in her religious community.
Rozella's passion for the arts and her desire to contribute to her community led her to become a member of Arts in Common and The Woman's Club of Altoona. She also proudly served on the AAHS Alumni Board, maintaining connections with her alma mater and fellow alumni. Additionally, Rozella generously volunteered her time with the Friends of UPMC Altoona Hospital, displaying her compassion and commitment to helping others.
While her accomplishments and contributions to society are remarkable, Rozella's true joy came from her family. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Their happiness and well-being were her greatest priorities. Rozella had a creative spirit and enjoyed expressing herself through painting. She found great delight in her trips to Williamsburg, VA, where she embraced the beauty and history of the region.
In accordance with her wishes, all services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Rozella will be laid to rest at Alto Reste Park in Altoona, PA.
