Samuel ‘Sam’ E. Claar, 79, resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday. Thank you to the wonderful staff at the Veterans Home.
He was born in Roaring Spring, son of Henry and Sarah (Feathers) Claar.
Sam is survived by his wife, Judith (Wendle) Claar; son, Dennis Claar; step-daughter, Julie Noel (Scott); step-son, Gary Walter (Lisa); brothers, Dave, Richard and Walter Claar; sisters, Jeanie and Thelma Claar; 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son Edward Walter; sisters Ada ‘Sis’ Heverly and Esther Grabill; and brothers Bob and Clair Claar.
Sam was a US Navy veteran. After his service to our country, he worked as a master carpenter at Mitchell Grace Construction for over 30 years, and retired from the company. He was a member of the Berean Baptist Church.
He enjoyed working in his shed and doing all kinds of woodworking. He loved bluegrass music and watching the Steelers and Pirates.
Services for Sam will be private with Pastor Barry Fry officiating. Interment will take place at Alto-Reste Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sam’s name to the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home, 500 Municipal Dr, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648.
