Obituary for Scott Allen Kelly

Scott Kelly, 55, Altoona, passed away Tuesday May 31st, surrounded by his loving family after a long, courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs).

He was born in Altoona on December 3, 1966

He is survived by his wife Kathie; 6 children, Aaron (Erin) of North Dakota, Jeff (Bridget), Justin (Jordyn), Jessica (Bobby), Samantha and Maggie, all from Altoona. A sister Wanda of Altoona, and 9 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Penelope Jean.

Scott was a 1984 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School.

He served in the United States Air Force – Minot Air Force Base, ND from 1985-1989 -Strategic Air Command (SAC), 91st Combat Support Group, 91st Civil Engineering Squadron - Readiness & Logistics Office - Administrative Specialist

He received a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Penn State University and his masters degree from Florida Metropolitan University.

He retired from Penn State after his diagnosis with ALS, where he was an Academic Advisor in the Division of Undergraduate studies, and a part time lecturer in Criminal Justice and Sociology.

Scott held many honors and awards during his time at Penn State. He was a member of Omicron Delta Kappa: National Leadership Honor Society. As well as Alpha Phi Sigma: National Criminal Justice Honor Society. He received the Student Government Association’s Excellence in Academic Advising Award on multiple occasions.

Family and friends will be received from 2-5pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022 and from Noon-1pm on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona, PA. A funeral service will take place on Sunday at 1pm with Pastor Tim Bartholomew officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Blair County Honor Guard.
