March 28, 1951 – April 23, 2020
Stephen John Bernecky, 69, of Claysburg, passed away Thursday at his home, following an extended illness. He was born in Spangler, son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Stupik) Bernecky. He married Eva J. Wilson on Dec. 19, 1987.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Eric; a stepdaughter, Candice Detwiler; a stepson, Adam Lamer; four grandchildren: Grace, Nickolas, Alexandria, and Isabella; a great-grandson, Brody; a sister, Kathleen Bernecky; two brothers: Peter Jr. and Randy Bernecky; and several nieces and nephews.
Stephen was preceded in death by a son, Robin; and a daughter, Heidi Bernecky.
He was a 1969 graduate of Northern Cambria High School, where he played football. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 – 1973. He was employed as a truck driver, cab driver and a coal miner.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking, and gardening.
