Obituary for Susan Jane Thomas

Susan Jane Thomas,88, a resident of the Lutheran Home in Hollidaysburg, passed away Friday, December 9, 2022, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.


Born Sept. 23, 1934, she was a daughter of the late Marshal C.and Hazel A. (Green) Shope. On Dec. 8, 1952, she married the love of her life, Kenneth Ray Thomas Sr. who preceded her in death on October 29, 2021.


Susan graduated from the Altoona High School. After school, she married Ken and they started their family. She devoted her life to her family by being a wonderful wife and mother. Her mission in life was to take care of them and she cherished every moment. She was the true Matriarch. She was always passionate, supportive, and loving no matter what. She was an absolute blessing to her entire family.


She was a meticulous seamstress and had a love for raising and showing German Shepherds.


When she wasn’t filling her home with love and kindness, you could find her in her sewing room or out in the kennel area with her dogs.


She was a member of the Altoona Area Kennel Association.


Surviving are six children: Jeanne Petite (Bill) of Texas, Kenneth Thomas II (Judy) of Hollidaysburg, LeeAnn Bell (Tim) of Virginia, Ellen Jackson (Lew) of Maryland, Rebecca Gampe (Mike) of Hollidaysburg and Bonnie Wood (Jamie) of Hollidaysburg; 13 grandchildren;17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; she is also survived by five sisters, Delores Stuckey, Marlene Beckel (Norman), Sylvia Snyder (Daniel), Cynthia Shope, Linda Knouse (Daniel), and one brother, Marshall Shope (Donna); a son-in-law, Ed Scott of Hollidaysburg, and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Frances Rider of Greenwood, PA.


In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Kim Scott and Cindy Lou; two sisters, Alene May and Marcella Shope.


All services will be private at the Good Funeral Home, Altoona.
