Vonda R. Houser

March 6, 1928 - Oct. 1, 2020

Vonda R. Houser, 92, of Altoona, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Flinton, daughter of Blain and Vesta (Yearick) Stevens. On Sept. 2, 1949, she married Glenn E. Houser in Winchester, Va.

She is survived by 11 nieces and nephews; and several close friends. Vonda will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She lived life to the fullest.

In addition to her husband of 55 years, Vonda was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jeanne Heil and Margaret Shore; and a brother, Harold Stevens.

She graduated from Reade Township High School and attended Indiana State Teachers College.

Vonda was employed by Grannas Bros. Contracting for 28 years.

She was a 62-year member of the Altoona Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, was past High Priestess of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. She also was a charter member of the Queen of Dorcas Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and later served as Supreme Queen- Daughters of the Nile (1982 -1983).

She was a member and past president of the Women’s Club of Altoona.

Vonda was a member of the First Church of Christ.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private service will be held. Interment will take place at the Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
